About the Author
I have come to understand that there are many ways by which one could go about defining myself. By my passions and interests. By the relationships I have with the people around me. By the blanket statements that describe how I occupy most of my time. Though instead, I am going to present you with a man, a woman, an object, and a dream. I believe that the presentation of these four entities define myself just as well as anything else could.
THe man
Jay Leno.
I first read Jay Leno's autobiography, Leading with My Chin, at the age of 12. It was the greatest book I had read up until that point, and I was immediately drawn to Leno's charisma and humor. He is my favorite comedian, and his work on the Tonight Show is timeless. He always represented the kind of man I had aspired to be, though my admiration of his person became even more significant since the beginning of his Web Show, Jay Leno's Garage. His wide range of automotive taste and his appreciation of automotive history assimilate to my own, which has assisted in the crafting of my present automotive enthusiasm. I aspire to at some point in my life, shake his hand.
the woman
Cheryl Strayed.
Cheryl Strayed's memoir, Wild, embodies everything I embrace about adventure and the American western landscape. Her strength and perseverance conveyed through her book and other readings has moved me, as I believe she stands as a prominent figure for women and people everywhere. Her taste in literature and poetry has particularly moved me, bringing to my attention the work of William Faulkner, Adrienne Rich and Margaret Drabble. I admire her for the influence she's had on me in regard to literature, appreciation of nature and adventure, and philosophical progression.
the object
1983 Dodge 400 Coupe.
I identify heavily with my vehicle. I find that the vehicle one chooses to drive acts as the most significant form of individual expression that one can possess. Should you choose to read the Automotive Yesteryear passages, you will learn in much greater depth what my vehicles have meant to me. However, for the moment I will leave you with this:
I'd surely slice your finger off with fine Damascus steel,
If you should choose to lay it on my prized automobile.
the dream
Become a cruise ship performer.
I could elaborate on the many wildly fanciful dreams that I aim to achieve in my livelihood, though I will focus on the most immediate and short term of them all. My funk, latin & island inspired trio ventures to book ourselves on a cruise ship this upcoming fall. We have built up our repertoire, craft, and marketing tools, and we believe we will feasibly make this dream a reality. It will stand as just one of the many chapters of my life.
